A school-based traineeship means you get paid to work while completing a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll undertake the minimum paid working hours across the duration of the program. By the time you finish, you’ll have real work experience, a qualification that’s valued across Australia, and a head start on your career – all while still at school.

To be eligible for a school-based traineeship, you will be:

• An Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident,  New Zealand Citizen, or eligible Visa holder
• Currently in year 10 or 11
• 16 years of age or older
• Not currently enrolled in a VETis funded qualification

This school-based traineeship with DDS Wellington Point gives you the chance to gain paid, hands-on experience in the service industry while completing a nationally recognised qualification – Certificate III in Community Pharmacy. 

As a school-based trainee in this role, your tasks and learning will include:

• Assisting customers with everyday health and pharmacy products (e.g. cough & cold, skin care, analgesics, vitamins).

• Helping customers with prescriptions under supervision (e.g. receiving, paying, handling).

• Providing excellent customer service (e.g. greeting, handling inquiries, resolving minor customer issues).

• Following point-of-sale procedures and managing stock transactions.

• Receiving and managing stock — checking deliveries, organising inventory, and keeping shelves stocked.

• Creating visual merchandise displays and supporting promotions or marketing activities in the store.

• Supporting the safe and compliant handling of pharmacy medicines, including assisting with over-the-counter (S2/S3) products under supervision.

• Applying infection control practices and following workplace health & safety procedures.

• Working effectively as part of the pharmacy team — coordinating tasks, assisting others, and gaining exposure to the daily workflow of a pharmacy.
