A school-based traineeship means you get paid to work while completing a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll undertake the minimum paid working hours across the duration of the program. By the time you finish, you’ll have real work experience, a qualification that’s valued across Australia, and a head start on your career – all while still at school.
Eligibility
To be eligible for a school-based traineeship, you will be:
- Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, New Zealand Citizen, or eligible Visa holder
- Currently in year 10 or 11
- Not currently enrolled in a VETis funded qualification

What you'll be doing
As a trainee, you will gain experience across a range of tasks that support the day-to-day operation of Mrs Browns Diner. These may include:
- Greeting customers and taking food and drink orders.
- Delivering meals and drinks to customers.
- Clearing and cleaning tables.
- Washing dishes and assisting with kitchen clean-up.
- Restocking fridges, supplies and service areas.
- Completing general cleaning duties to maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment.
- Working as part of a team in a busy hospitality setting.
This opportunity allows you to earn while you learn, with structured training linked directly to the skills you will use in the workplace. What happens when I finish my traineeship?
You’ll graduate with a nationally recognised qualification and real workplace experience. Many trainees are offered ongoing work or use the qualification to continue their career.
Who will support me during the program?
You’ll be supported by your school, your workplace supervisor, and your training organisation. Australian Vocational Academy will be your main contact throughout your course and deliver the qualification program to you. Australian Vocational Academy is a Registered Training Organisation (Similar to a TAFE)
