How do I know if I’m eligible?
Eligibility for each course can differ slightly, select from the below options to determine if you are eligible for current funding schemes
Career Start
The Program provides training to help individuals find a job and supports those already employed to move into more skilled roles or full-time employment, including after completing an apprenticeship or traineeship. Career Start supports delivery of entry level training to students, Trainees and Apprentices aligned with the skill outcomes required by industry. A maximum of one (1) Career Start qualification is available to Queenslanders in a 10 year period.
Eligibility
- be a permanent Queensland resident;
- be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), or temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;
- not currently be enrolled in a Qualification;
- not have previously completed a certificate III or higher-level Qualification within the last 10 years for a general training pathway; and
- not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10-year period.
- Not be enrolled in any other qualification, whether funded or unfunded, except for foundation skills qualifications and school based traineeships
Career Boost
Career Boost provides eligible individuals with one subsidised training place in either a Certificate IV, Diploma, or Advanced Diploma qualification under the general training pathway or a higher-level apprenticeship/traineeship at certificate IV or above and up to two subsidised skill sets. A maximum of one (1) Career Boost qualification is available to Queenslanders in a 10 year period.
Eligibility
- Aged 15 years or older;
- Not be a school student;
- Be a permanent Queensland resident;
- Be an Australian citizen, or Australian permanent resident (includes
humanitarian entrant), or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen; - Not already have a Certificate IV or higher qualification (including tertiary qualification) completed within the last 10 years (qualifications completed as a school student, and foundation skills qualifications, do not count).
- Not be enrolled in any other qualification, whether funded or unfunded, except for foundation skills qualifications.
Traineeship Pathway
The User Choice program subsidises a range of priority qualifications to be undertaken as workplace traineeships. This funding is available for eligible individuals registered into a traineeship contract. A maximum of two (2) funded traineeships are available to Queenslanders in a 10 year period.
Eligibility
- currently employed as a Queensland apprentice or trainee (under a
registered training contract) in an eligible apprenticeship or traineeship qualification through this Program. - Not currently be enrolled in any other qualification
- Not exceed a maximum of two government-funded apprenticeships/traineeships within a 10-year period.
School Based Traineeships
School Based Traineeships support young Queenslanders undertaking year 10, 11 and 12 to participate in paid employment and structured training leading to a Nationally Recognised Qualification.
Eligibility
- be enrolled in Year 10, 11, or 12 in a Queensland School
- not be concurrently enrolled in any other Qualifications funded by the Department I.e. VETis
- Not have completed a previous school based traineeship or apprenticeship

Additional Information
The User Choice traineeship fee is $1.60 per nominal hour resulting in mandatory contribution fees set by the Queensland Government as follows.
The balance of this amount to the fee listed above is the employer Administration and facilities fee for engaging the services of our College. BSB30120 (Food) $768, BSB302120 (Retail) $736, BSB30120 (Office) $728, SIR30216 (Retail) $672, SIR30216 (General) $664, SIR30116 $792. Concession rate is 40% of the above listed amount and the Administration and facilities fee.
If a student withdraws from training, fees from the mandatory contribution component will be refunded for units of competency where the student has not commenced training on a pro rata basis (where course fees have been paid).
The Administration and facilities fee component is not refundable after enrolment into the course unless required under Australian consumer law.
