Overview
If you’re already working in a hospital pharmacy and have developed solid experience in the dispensary, this course has been created to strengthen your skills for more advanced pharmacy technician responsibilities. Designed for senior hospital pharmacy technicians or individuals with at least two years of experience in a hospital pharmacy environment, the course builds the knowledge and capability required to support pharmacists in complex healthcare settings. Learn how to assist with medication dispensing, pharmaceutical packing, stock management, dispensary administration and the safe handling of medicines. You will also build knowledge across medical terminology, body systems, medication use and workplace safety while applying your learning directly in your workplace. This qualification helps experienced hospital pharmacy staff become more confident, capable and ready to contribute to high-quality patient care. This course requires the completion of a minimum of 240 hours of work in a hospital pharmacy undertaking a range of related workplace activities.
Training Overview
Course Delivery
This course is delivered entirely within a hospital pharmacy environment, allowing you to develop real skills while working in your role. Our Trainers will support you throughout the program with monthly Zoom or workplace workshops, ongoing workplace guidance, and fully paperless coursework. The qualification is typically completed through a traineeship pathway, combining paid employment with structured training to support your growth and success in the hospital pharmacy setting.
Training
Training for this course is completed by:
- Completing our monthly module training workshops via Zoom with your Trainer
- Reviewing and engaging in our Learner Guide that contains detailed readings and videos.
- Completion of your workplace training record book
- Completing the practical learning log. This log supports you to practice the required skills in your workplace before undertaking assessment.
- Where this course is completed through a traineeship pathway, minimum working hours will support your skill development.
Assessment
Assessment for this course is completed by:
- The completion of written short answer questions and checklists
- Your workplace supervisor completing a supervisor report confirming you have practiced the skills in the workplace
- Completing a workplace observation in the workplace. During this session, your Trainer will ask you to complete a range of workplace tasks and they’ll be assessing your performance at work.

All course resources are provided in our Axcelerate portal. Our course is 100% paperless providing you with 24/7 access to course content. Students undertaking this course will be able to use a computer and various internet programs without assistance.
Entry Requirements
Entry into this qualification is available for individuals:
- Who are an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident, New Zealand citizen or eligible visa holder
- Able to read and write in English
- Able to use a computer and internet without assistance
- Have the technical skills and equipment to undertake our programs
- A minimum 18 months employment experience as a hospital pharmacy technician (within the last three years)
- Maintain work in a Hospital Pharmacy as a technician for the duration of the course
